About Peace Ribbon
So many of us were caught off guard by the onslaught of those yellow "Support Our Troops" ribbon magnets. How did they become so widespread at such a rapid pace, and how did they quickly morph from a "neutral" stance in support of our troops to a pro-war pro-Bush message?
Even before the presidential election last November I looked for
a symbol that might represent my anti-war pro-humanity beliefs — something
I could display on my car to voice my opinion in response to that
yellow ribbon magnet. Nothing out there created a clear strong rebuttal.
Around the time of the election, this design dawned on me. I deeply
hoped that after the November election, the need would no longer
exist. Sadly, I was wrong. The need persists.
I designed the Peace Ribbon shown here as my response.
Based on the peace symbol, and integrating the yellow ribbon — the Peace Ribbon takes back the yellow
ribbon as a symbol for those who want to support our troops — through peace.
I and those helping me on this project dream that this symbol will be a meaningful
contribution to grassroots efforts to end the Iraq war. I encourage
those of you to whom it speaks to help us get it out there.
