Frequently asked questions
Why create a Peace Ribbon?
- To create a symbol that gives voice to the anti-war
movement.
- To distribute on a mass level a symbol that
represents the anti-war movement.
- It's a grass-roots tool that can send a message.
Is the Peace Ribbon only available as a bumper sticker? What about magnets>
We are happy to announce that Peace Ribbon magnets are in! We also have new improved Peace Ribbon bumper stickers, with a clear background. Other ideas include lapel pins and t-shirts but you tell us! We welcome your thoughts and suggestions.Let's get'em out there.
Who is involved in the Peace Ribbon Project?
Many people, and the list grows daily. As soon as you put this
symbol on your car, your briefcase, your guitar case, your backpack,
or any place that can be seen, you are part of the Peace Ribbon
Project.
Maureen Scanlon, a graphic designer, created the symbol. Athena
Consulting, run by Maureen's sister, Pam Scanlon along with Michael
Niederer developed and maintain the website. Many friends including
writers, designers, PR folks, teachers, doctors, and other like-minded
good people, are pounding the pavement in support of this endeavor.
(If you would like your name associated with this project, you may
indicate so when you place your order.)
How are the bumper stickers being funded and produced?
The Peace Ribbon is at its infant stage, and is working on a shoe-string
budget. Bumper stickers are being purchased with personal funds.
Selling bumper stickers will create the funding to make other items
available.
Where's the money go?
We have a whole page devoted
to this question. Basically, we are donating 50% of the sale of
each product to a worthy organization that helps those impacted
by the Iraq war.
Is the Peace Ribbon part of a larger non-profit organization?
No, the Peace Ribbon is a personal political project, and is not
part of any other for-profit or not-for-profit organization.
How will proceeds be distributed and what are the financial
goals?
From the sale of the very first item, half of the sales will be
donated to the identified causes. The other 50% will initially be
used to cover startup expenses, and then will be put back into the
project. We hope eventually to increase the percentage of proceeds
benefiting these organizations.
How did you select these organizations?
The original impetus was to help those victimized by the war. One
organization, the Iraqi
Children's Art Project is, like the Peace
Ribbon, a locally-based, grassroots effort. Its mission is to raise
awareness of and compassion for the innocent Iraqi people across
the United States, through the eyes of Iraqi children. Gold
Star Families for Peace, the organization found by Cindy Sheehan,
assists families who have been impacted by the war. We welcome your
input in identifying other worthy organizations. Please contact
us with your thoughts.
What can I do to spread the word?
There are many ways to help the Peace Ribbon. A few are listed
below but contact us if you have ideas. Co-sponsor the Peace Ribbon
through your political organization, or volunteer to contact key
political organizations about the availability of the peace ribbon
- Buy Peace Ribbons at bulk to give away or resell at key events
and rallies throughout the country

or bookstore might sell
